Television Academy Presents An Evening with James Burrows Photos
Jennifer Aniston: “Friends” Was My Sixth TV Pilot, Had to ‘Sit Out’ Cast Photos
Because another TV pilot died, Jennifer Aniston’s role on Friends got to live. During the Television Academy presents An Evening Honoring James Burrows at the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences on Monday, Oct. 7, the 44-year-old actress recalled landing her breakout role as Rachel Green on the 1994 NBC sitcom Friends after shooting five other TV pilots.
When Friends director Burrows had his first audition with Aniston, she was on CBS sitcom Muddling Through at the time. “We took her in second position,” he explained of hiring the actress for Friends, “so [when] that show was cancelled, we were able to use her.”
“Not knowing that though, I had to sit out when we were doing our cast photos,” Aniston recalled. While they were filming the pilot, the actress said she was asked by a man on set, “‘Who are you? What’s your story?’ And I said, ‘Well, I’m doing a bunch of pilots and this is just my sixth pilot and I’m just hoping that it goes.’ And he said, ‘But you’re on another show’ and I said, ‘Yeah.’ And he said, ‘You know they’re going to pick that show up just to try to mess with Friends because this is going to be a great show.’ And I was like, ‘No. They would never do that.’ And sure enough I remember we were at the upfronts and they literally came out with the announcement that they picked us up for three episodes.”
“When we were shooting the first grouping of cast photos [of Friends] in front of that fountain, I was asked to step out of a bunch because they didn’t know if I was going to be still playing Rachel,” Aniston explained.
Of course, Aniston did land the role and starred opposite her now real-life friends Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer. Before the six actors made it big, Burrows treated them to a trip to Las Vegas because he “had a feeling about the show.”
“I took them to Vegas. We ate at Caesar’s Palace in Spago. I had me and six of them and I said — I don’t know why I said this — I said, ‘This is your last shot at anonymity,” he recalled. “I said, ‘Once the show comes on the air, you guys will never be able to go anywhere without being hounded.’ I knew the show had a chance to really take off. So I did that and then I said, ‘Do you want to gamble?’ and they said, ‘Yes.’ I said, ‘Okay, go ahead.’ And all six of them didn’t have any money so they each wrote me checks for $200 and I cashed them. And that was it. They came back and premiered and they don’t have a shot of anonymity anymore.”
Aniston said being a part of the three-camera show was one of her “most energizing experiences to date.” She explained, “The energy of an audience, that sort of opening night jitters every Friday night or Tuesday night — depending on when we were filming. Not knowing when that was going to happen and just sort of allowing that night to sort of be totally spontaneous — of course knowing that we knew what we were supposed to do — but there would always be surprising fun moments. It’s an energy that film or single-camera now that is so popular is just not the same.”
The We’re the Millers actress confessed that she misses Friends and would “honestly go back to it” if there was a reunion.
“If we could, I would,” she said, but added, “I don’t think people would want to see us today.”

Redbook Magazine Interview: Jennifer Aniston’s Best Beauty Tricks
Jennifer Aniston shares her favorite old-school beauty tricks (there’s Vaseline involved) and spills the secrets on how she gets that hair.
REDBOOK: When did you decide that sleek, straight hair was your look?
Jennifer Aniston: When I was a little girl, I had long, straight hair with bangs, and my mom always said, “You’re not allowed to cut your hair until you’re 13.” I mean, I would get trims. [After 13] I unleashed myself on my hair: I cut it every possible way. But ever since then, I have been trying to get my long, straight hair back.
RB: People often assume shorter hair is easier to manage. But with long hair, you can just air-dry and go.
JA: Um, that’s my everyday! I usually shape the hair around my face with my fingers—just twist it and then refine it with a brush and let it air-dry. I use Living Proof Amp² styling cream [she's a co-owner of the brand], or I’ll put it in two braids if I want a sort of manageable curl.
RB: Who uses more hair products, you or your fiancé [Justin Theroux]?
JA: I think we use an equal amount. He uses whatever is in the shower, and Living Proof products are what’s there. He likes the Living Proof Amp² too.
RB: Now that you wear an engagement ring, do you feel like you have to constantly have manicured nails?
JA: I do, and I’m so mortified because I have a chipped nail right now. Hopefully you’ll forgive me for it.
RB: Of course! Is there a nail polish you especially like?
JA: I’m a natural girl. But I go bolder on my toes.
RB: You always look bronzed. Do you use self-tanner?
JA: I like the L’Oréal [Sublime Bronze Self-Tanning Towelettes]. They’re great. My confession is that [my color currently] is from the sun, with a bit of body makeup. I do have sunspots. I used to have such flawless skin, I really did.
RB: Is there any makeup trend you’d never try?
JA: Red lips. Super-bleached blondes—like Gwen Stefani—can get away with it, but it’s tough to pull off with my color.
RB: Any beauty secrets to share?
JA: Put Vaseline on your eyes at night—all over. It helps condition your lashes. My mom taught me that. And my girlfriend told me years ago that if you wake up with puffy eyes, you can put Preparation H underneath them. It’s amazing. And I used to not know how to blow-dry my hair, but I learned how to do it with a big round brush to get into the root and the crown.
RB: If you had to give up everything else and choose just one…
RB: I was going to say makeup product. But what job?
JA: It’s so far from anything I do now, but I would love to be an interior designer. I’m almost finished with my next house—it’s an expensive habit, but I love it!

Jennifer Aniston Is Not Pregnant, Says Star’s Publicist
Another day, another story about Jennifer Aniston being with child.
But despite Us Weekly’s newest issue claiming on its cover that the actress is expecting a baby, the 44-year-old star’s publicist insists it is not true.
“Jennifer is NOT pregnant and their story is just another fabrication,” Stephen Huvane tells E! News.
Aniston, who is engaged to Justin Theroux, is certainly no stranger to such reports.
“It does feel like they’ve exhausted…the speculation,” the We’re the Millers star told Australia’s Kyle & Jackie O Show last month. “It’s all been pretty much exhausted.”
She added, “Why not just wait until we actually get to have the fun of announcing something? Who wants to play the guessing game?”
Aniston also joked that any baby bump that photographers think they’re seeing is “just a couple of pounds.”

Jennifer Aniston Doesn’t Blow-Dry Her Hair Very Often—Find Out Why!
Kate Middleton may be a fan of the daily blowout, but Jennifer Aniston is not.
In a new interview with Redbook magazine the actress shares her hair routine and it is shockingly easy.
“I usually shape the hair around my face with my fingers—just twist it and then refine it with a brush and let it air-dry,” she explains. “I use Living Proof Amp styling cream, or I’ll put in two braids if I want a sort of manageable curl.”
Ironically, Aniston recently admitted to having hair envy for the Duchess of Cambridge’s tresses. Yet, considering the former Friends star had the same sleek golden locks for well over a decade, we doubt she’s going to switch up her daily regimen anytime soo
Another thing she won’t be adding to her beauty routine? “Red lips,” the star says. “Super-bleached blondes—like Gwen Stefani—can get away with it, but it’s tough to pull off with my color.”
The actress is referring to her bronzed skin, which she says is thanks to a little help from L’Oréal Sublime Bronze Self-Tanning Towelettes and the sun. “I do have sunspots,” the actress confesses. “I used to have such flawless skin, I really did.”
So how does she maintain her almost perfect complexion? “Put Vaseline on your eyes at night—all over. It helps condition your lashes. My mom taught me that,” she says. “And my girlfriend told me years ago that if you wake up with puffy eyes, you can put Preparation H underneath them. It’s amazing.
While it may seem like the star is an all-around beauty guru, she says it’s not the job she’d take if she ever quit acting.
“I would love to be an interior designer. I’m almost finished with my next house—it’s an expensive habit, but I love it!”
Here’s hopping she’ll give the world a sneak peek at her skills when the pad is complete.

Olivia Wilde Asked Jennifer Aniston for Advice on Dealing With Fame
When Olivia Wilde joked that she and fiancé Jason Sudeikis had the sexual stamina of “Kenyan marathon runners,” she didn’t realize her quip would land her in the midst of a media frenzy.
So, the 29-year-old actress reached out to Jennifer Aniston, who, as she tells Allure’s October issue, has “been through the wringer” when it comes to being a tabloid target.
“And I explained the situation, and I said I needed advice on how to deal with these things,” says Wilde. “She wrote me one of the most gracious, wise emails describing her journey and really wonderful words of advice about how to deal with it. And in the end, I think I would do it all again exactly the same way.”
Fair enough. It seems that Wilde, like Aniston (who’s engaged to Justin Theroux), plans to keep most of the details surrounding her upcoming nuptials private. She says her wedding plan is “slowly developing,” and it will be a “funny, silly” occasion.
“I trust everyone to not leak any information,” she says. “I just hope no one ends up flying a stupid helicopter over it or anything dumb like that.”
For more from Wilde’s interview, check out the October issue of Allure, on sale Sept. 24.

Justin Theroux Talks Life With Jennifer Aniston: “Like Going to a Slightly Different Altitude”
Justin Theroux admits that meeting Jennifer Aniston took him to new heights—for better or for worse.
“It’s a bit like going to a slightly different altitude, you know?” he describes being with the actress in the October 2013 issue of GQ, the cover boy referring to the relentless amount of attention she (and now he) gets from the paparazzi.
“I call them photojournalists, actually,” Theroux quipped when asked about the shutterbugs. “When I get complimented on the street about having twins—that’s weird, too.”
So it seems as if the actor, who also cowrote Tropic Thunder and Iron Man 2 and is working on the planned Zoolander sequel, has been able to keep his sense of humor about one of the less glamorous aspects of finding success, fame and love in Hollywood.
He could even laugh about having to relocate some of his prized bachelor-pad possessions when he and Aniston moved in together, à la Bruno Kirby having to dump his beloved wagon-wheel coffee table in When Harry Met Sally when his character, Jess, moved in with Carrie Fisher’s Marie.
Though, really, we can’t blame Jen here, considering his “syphilis throats” were his wagon wheel.
“I have these beautiful wax-museum pieces—handmade, from the 1800s—from a museum of curiosities,” Theroux explained. “They’re just these open mouths, with tongues, and in the throats are different stages, labeled, of syphilis and gonorrhea and whatever. Those definitely found a great place in my office in L.A. They weren’t going to be above the fireplace anytime soon.”
As beautiful as those sound…relationships are all about compromise, right? No wonder he and Aniston spent so much time shopping for other antiques!

Justin Theroux Supports Jennifer Aniston at “Life of Crime” Premiere
Jennifer Aniston stunned at the premiere of her latest film Life of Crime at the Toronto International Film Festival and donned an adorable accessory—her fiance Justin Theroux!
A source tells E! News the actress, who looked gorgeous in a strapless light purple dress and nude heels, had Justin as her biggest supporter all night long.
The couple headed to Hudson Kitchen after the premiere for a party sponsored by Pandora Jewelry where “Justin was by her side all night smiling.”
The source adds Jen, who has recently dodged pregnancy rumors, “didn’t really eat, just sipped on Smart Water.”
The toned actress clearly keeps her frame in check but she’s still able to laugh when she gains. In fact, Jen joked last month her supposed baby bump was “just a couple of pounds.”
The couple have been engaged since August 2012.
