Jennifer finds the right man in New Movie
Posted Oct 9th, 2009 in Love Happens News • 0 Comments
It sounds like a typical case of Hollywood typecasting. In her new film Love Happens, Jennifer Aniston plays a woman who keeps falling for the wrong guy and is continually unlucky in love. It could be the story of Jennifer’s own life, but if it has any special meaning for the actress, she’s not saying. Having recently split with on-off boyfriend John Mayer, Jennifer, who turned 40 in February, is once again unattached and available. In Love Happens, which opens today, she plays Eloise, a free-spirited florist in Seattle who, after a lot of bad boyfriend choices, decides to give up men altogether and focus on her business. She meets a self-help author (Aaron Eckhart) who is mourning the death of his wife and, while helping others deal with their pain, needs help himself. Together, when they least expect it, the pair find that love happens. And Jennifer’s friends are all hoping that the actress will find something similar after a series of failed romances. Before meeting and marrying Brad Pitt, she dated actor Tate Donovan for three years, and Counting Crows singer Adam Duritz. Since her five-year marriage ended, Jen has had romantic affairs with Vince Vaughn (her co-star in the movie The Break-Up), and model Paul Sculfor. Even her split with Mayer was plagued with controversy, prompting back-and-forth stories about who dumped who. But it is the much-publicised collapse of her marriage to Pitt four years ago which continues to haunt Jennifer. According to one report, she recently burst into tears while filming in New York, telling an assistant that a scene “reminded her of him”. Jennifer denies this, but she is happy to talk about love when we meet in a Beverly Hills hotel to discuss her latest movie. “I don’t think you can plan or control it,” she laughs. “I think you have to just be willing to take what comes and however it comes, you know?” Jennifer admits Love Happens is “not your typical love story”. She continues, “It’s about two people who are starting a scary new beginning. Eloise is content with the choices she has made, but when she meets the self-help guru she sees an opportunity to fix something.” However, when she first read the script, Jennifer wasn’t keen to take the role. “There wasn’t a lot of depth to Eloise and you didn’t root for her,” she says. “But it’s a beautiful idea that these two characters are out there fixing up other people but not really doing it for themselves. So the script was changed and it got to a really nice place eventually.” Jennifer has just returned to Los Angeles after a summer filming in New York and has moved back into the £10m six-bedroom, seven-bathroom home she shares with her two dogs. Born in nearby Sherman Oaks, Jennifer grew up in showbusiness. Her godfather was Kojak star Telly Savalas, her mother was a model and actress, and her father was in TV soap operas. Jen’s parents divorced in 1980 and she later fell out with her mother, Nancy, when she gossiped about her daughter’s personal life on TV. The pair have since patched up their differences. On the work front, Jen has high hopes for her next two films, Bounty – in which she plays a journalist on the run from Gerard Butler’s bounty hunter – and The Baster, where she stars as an unmarried woman in her 30s who turns to a turkey baster to get pregnant. And, despite her much-publicised dating problems, Jennifer insists she is very happy with life. “I have a really great relationship with myself and that’s a lifelong process,” she says.
