Jennifer Aniston to play Harvard psychologist in new film ‘Counterclockwise’
Posted Nov 26th, 2009 in News Rumors • 0 Comments
Jennifer Aniston is set to play the role of Ellen Langer, Ph.D., Harvard psychologist and author of Counterclockwise: Mindful Health and the Power of Possibility. For over 30 years, Langer has studied the effect of the mind on physical health. Her belief is that changing one’s mind can lead to better health. In an interview published on November 17, Langer discusses her groundbreaking 1974 “Counterclockwise” study in which she virtually recreated the year 1959 in a monastery: “In the Counterclockwise study, we took old people and put their minds back 20 years earlier. We had them live as if it was in fact 20 years earlier. They spoke about past events in the present tense. They were living in an environment that was retrofitted to that time period and the results were close to amazing. Their vision improved, their hearing improved [and] their cognitive abilities improved. We’ve even taken photographs of them at the beginning, and at the end of the week, people who knew nothing about the study evaluated the photos. According to these unbiased witnesses, they even looked younger.” Langer went on to do many more studies about the psychology of possibility. Langer’s theory is that when the mind is put in a healthy place, the body reaps physical benefits of turning back the clock. The film, Counterclockwise, starring Jennifer Aniston, is scheduled for release in 2010. Leave a Reply
