John Mayer may move on from woman to woman, but he never got over Jennifer Aniston.

The 32-year-old musician makes the confession in the latest issue of Rolling Stone, gracing the cover shirtless.

“I’ve never really gotten over it,” Mayer admits of the breakup. “It was one of the worst times of my life … I have this weird feeling, a pride thing, for the people I’ve had relationships with.

“What would I be saying to Jen, who I think is f—ing fantastic, if I said to her, ‘I don’t dislike you,’ ” he wonders. ” ‘In fact, I like you extremely well. But I have to back out of this because it doesn’t arc over the horizon. This is not where I see myself for the rest of my life. This is not my ideal destiny.’ ”

Mayer reportedly began dating Aniston in April 2008 before the couple split up – for the second time – last January.

Despite his effort to move on, Mayer, who says he can’t get past his former paramours who include Minka Kelly and Jessica Simpson, has difficulty dating non-celebrities.

“All I want to do now is f— the girls I’ve already f—ed, because I can’t fathom explaining myself to somebody who can’t believe I’d be interested in them,” he says. “And they’re going, ‘But you’re John Mayer!’ So I’m going backwards to move forward. I’m too freaked out to meet anybody else.”

Now that he’s confessed his dating fears, Mayer says he has no regrets about his candid interview.

“Just read my Rolling Stone cover article. I’m still not sure if I would want to hang out with me,” he tweeted Wednesday morning. “After 30 minutes of twirling my hair into a knot, I say ‘f— it.’ You can’t go wrong if you tell the truth.”
