WikiLeaks does not reveal all.
In a U.S. Embassy cable published yesterday on the controversial site, the collective works of Jennifer Aniston, George Clooney, Eva Longoria and David Letterman are noted for taking the edge off extremism in Saudi Arabia.
But what doesn’t the document say?
It doesn’t say which movies are saving the world from terrorism.
Yes, the dispatch, from a section really, truly titled, “David Letterman, Agent of Influence,” name checks Aniston’s Friends, Clooney’s Michael Clayton, Longoria’s Desperate Housewives, Letterman’s Late Show and even Christopher Nolan’s Insomnia, but…
It doesn’t identify the two “mawkish US dramas” credited with “having a profound effect on the values and worldviews of Saudi audiences” thanks to their repeated airings on Saudi cable.
Either the muckety-muck writing the cable thinks it too explosive to identity the “mawkish US dramas,” or (our guess) the muckety-muck’s like your mom—and can’t remember what they’re called.
The muckety-muck, however, does offer clues.
The cable describes the movies as “featuring respectful, supportive American husbands dealing with spouses suffering from addiction problems.” Mystery Flick No. 1 concerns a gambling gal who “lost the kids’ college funds and then told her college professor husband it was because he was boring.” Mystery Flick No. 2 is about an alcohol-addled lady who “smash[es] cars and china when she wasn’t assaulting the husband and child.”
Our best guesses? Don’t have any.
Albert Brooks’ Lost in America comes to mind for the gambling film, but doesn’t fit. The Jack Lemmon and Lee Remick classic Days of Wine and Roses comes to mind for the alcohol film, but unless Saudis are digging on TCM, that doesn’t fit, either.
If you’ve got any guesses, we’d love to know.
The future of the free world depends on it. Plus, we hate being stumped.

Aniston, Clooney, & Mystery Movies Saving World From Terrorism. Really?!
Wednesday, December 8th, 2010Courteney thanks Jennifer Aniston for help during marital problems
Monday, December 6th, 2010According to Courtney Cox, Jennifer Aniston has been there for her through these tough times like a good friend should be. It is obvious that Jennifer Aniston has been a good friend.
In an interview with ContactMusic Courtney Cox said that Jennifer Aniston has been there for her;
“Jennifer has been so wonderful. You need good friends to keep your spirits up.”
If anyone could help Cox through this tough time it is Jennifer Aniston. Aniston went through her own martial problems and eventual divorce from Brad Pitt five years ago. She has endless amounts of knowledge to help Cox get passed the pain and despair and move on with her life.
Cox helped Aniston through her divorce and it is only expected that a good friend will be there when they are needed. There is no doubt that Aniston and Cox are very close friends and it is nice to see that Cox has someone to turn to right now. Maybe if David Arquette had such a good friend he wouldn’t be acting the way he is right now.
Celebs Love Jennifer Aniston, So Why Doesn’t America?
Wednesday, December 1st, 2010Notoriously acerbic comedienne Chelsea Handler went on vacation in Mexico with buddy Jennifer Aniston over Thanksgiving and, despite her famously sharp tongue, had nothing but nice things to say about the actress. Handler, who appeared on last night’s episode of ‘The Tonight Show,’ told host Jay Leno of their trip, “[Jennifer] was sweet enough to take me on vacation with her … I was trying not to get photographed next to her, for obvious reasons.”
Handler isn’t the only celebrity to praise Aniston in the press. ‘The Bounty Hunter’ co-star and rumored flame Gerard Butler told Us Magazine of the actress, “She’s like my best buddy. She’s so down-to-earth, so easy going. She’s incredibly self-deprecating and again, just alive!”
While it seems that Aniston has some Hollywood heavyweights in her corner, she can’t seem to shake the negative press she earned for her most famous role: the former Mrs. Brad Pitt. Although it’s been over five years since Aniston and Pitt divorced, rarely a week goes by without the actress’s rumored romantic entanglements appearing in the press, often painting a less-than-flattering portrait of Aniston as some kind of down-and-out spinster.
Despite her fame, fortune and reputation as a genuinely nice person, it seems as though many media outlets aren’t ready to let Aniston step out of the shadow of her former relationship or that of Pitt and current partner, Angelina Jolie.
Many celebrities whose relationships have crumbled amid rumors of infidelity have received support from the media and fans, but Aniston has consistently been lampooned by the press while Pitt and Jolie have become beloved Hollywood royalty.
The question is, why?
The fact of the matter is, Aniston’s situation represents some of our worst fears. She is not only beautiful but successful and, by all accounts, a lovely individual, but she still couldn’t make her seemingly perfect relationship with Pitt work. To make matters worse, she was allegedly left for a younger, more successful and, by some accounts, more beautiful woman.
While most celebrity mistresses or rebounds are criticized in the press, Jolie was a respected actress and beauty icon before she became involved with Pitt. Jolie’s reputation hardly took a hit when she announced she was pregnant with Pitt’s child only a year after his divorce, leading many to believe the two had been involved while Pitt was still married.
According to Dr. Lorraine B. Cates, a New York City psychoanalyst and couple’s therapist, “Angelina Jolie projects an all-knowingness that people like to feel. Our culture is having a very hard time dealing with just being human, something Aniston projects so well. With the enormity of all the cultural changes assaulting us, there seemingly is a return to wanting gods and goddesses.”
Despite Aniston’s discretion regarding her post-Pitt relationships, her every move has been critiqued by the press, with everything from her looks to her reported flings being deemed “sad.” Even ‘Project Runway’ charmer Tim Gunn weighed in on the actress, telling OK!, “Sometimes I think she has ‘desperate character’ written on her.”
Cates says that the constant criticism of Aniston is less indicative of a problem with the actress herself, but with the culture she’s a part of. “There is a need to dissect life into good, bad, right and wrong, and the press does that. Jennifer Aniston is an example of a complicated human being that is striving to find meaning in her life,” she says.
“The culprit is the press promulgating the tacit and sometimes not so tacit message that being a real human being is simply not acceptable — that’s what’s sad in this scenario, certainly not Aniston.”
Jennifer Aniston wants to film Graduate remake with Robert Pattinson
Saturday, November 27th, 2010Actress Jennifer Aniston reportedly wants to team up with hunky actor Robert Pattinson for a remake of The Graduate.
The 41-year-old Hollywood star is said to be very keen for her agent to set up a meeting with the Twilight star.
An insider told British newspaper the Daily Star: ‘Jen’s a huge fan of The Graduate, it’s one of her favourite films and she would love to do a new version of it.
‘Jen thinks she and Rob would be the perfect duo to recreate the highly sexual roles.’
The source added: ‘Jen is very excited at the prospect of teaming up with Rob.’
The original 1967 movie starred Dustin Hoffman as a college graduate who is seduced by an older woman.
Aniston stages surprise cameo on Broadway
Thursday, November 18th, 2010Jennifer Aniston shocked the audience and her cast mates at a Broadway charity event in New York when she made a surprise cameo on stage as part of the ’24 Hour Plays’.
The actress played the spirit of a dead dog in ‘The Bitch Downstairs’, one of six short plays written and performed in the space of 24 hours, reports the Daily Express.
Her co-stars Kyra Sedgwick, Sam Rockwell and Nia Vardalos were also unaware of her cameo as she made her entrance just in time.
“She”s known about the show for weeks, but whether or not she could perform depended on her shooting schedule. She actually came right from the set,” a source said of Aniston.
“She did fantastic, and the crowd went wild. What”s not to love? It”s Jennifer Aniston,” said Aniston”s good friend Kathy Najimy
Courteney Cox: Jen Aniston “Has Been Amazing” During My Separation
Monday, November 1st, 2010Speaking out for the first time since separating from David Arquette, Courteney Cox tells TV Week, “I don’t know what will happen, but this is not like we’re getting divorced.”
In the interview, she reiterates that “this is a separation and I think that takes a lot of courage.”
Adds the actress (who had planned to take daughter Coco, 6, Trick-or-Treating with Arquette, 39, this past weekend), “Whatever is supposed to happen will be the best thing for us.”
Echoing sentiments from Arquette’s first tell-all Howard Stern interview a few weeks ago, Cox, 46, said that she and Arquette have become different people after 11 years.
“Sometimes you just realize ‘Wow, we actually have grown apart,” she said.
As for that Stern interview – which Arquette has said made Cox “pissed” – she said she called Arquette a “kook” and said “it’s not shocking and Howard Stern — he loves him and I’m a fan of Howard Stern … David is an entertainer and I’m sure the people who listen to the radio are entertained by his stories.”
As Us Weekly previously reported, she said she is relying on BFF Jennifer Aniston to get her through it all.
“We just have fun, we laugh, we’re inseparable and it’s great,” Cox says. “It’s funny, a lot of really close friends are kind of going through this right now or like Jennifer [who] has gone through it. I don’t know what’s going on in the planets or what, but things are being shaken up and I don’t know what’s going to happen, but, yeah, Jennifer has been amazing for sure.”

Aniston’s rep responds to Joan Collins attack
Saturday, October 16th, 2010An unprovoked Joan Collins decided to take a potshot at Jennifer Aniston saying that she is: “cute, but I wouldn’t call her beautiful. She’s no Ava [Gardner] or Lana [Turner].” No one knows why Collins lashed out at Aniston, could be that Aniston’s star is sky high and that Collins star has faded away into obscurity, but one can only speculate.
E! Online reports that Jennifer Aniston has decided to stay classy and has taken the high road by not responding to Collins attack on her beauty.
Aniston’s rep said that they are “aware” of Collins rude comments about the ‘Friends’ actress, and that there was “”no need to engage with that nonsense.” We wouldn’t expect anything less from Aniston; she has always been a class act when it comes to mudslinging. Looks like Collins is going to have to regain her 15 minutes of fame by attacking someone else.
Collins has gone on to slam every actress in Hollywood saying that: “I have to say, there aren’t that many good-looking actresses around today. I mean, there’s Angelina Jolie and there’s… Angelina Jolie.”
Jennifer Aniston Pulling for Cox/Arquette Reunion
Friday, October 15th, 2010Jennifer Aniston knows the pain of divorce, and she’s hoping that her on-and-offscreen friend Courteney Cox can avoid it.
According to PopEater, the 41-year-old Aniston—who split with her husband Brad Pitt in 2005—is desperately hoping that her former castmate Cox and her husband David Arquette, who announced their separation yesterday, won’t dissolve their 11-year-marriage. A friend of Aniston’s tells the site,
“Jen has known for some time that the couple was in trouble but hoped and prayed they would be able to work it out. No one knows how painful divorce is more than Jen and she hopes they don’t rush into it without exhausting every possibility to stay together.”
Given that Arquette and Cox actually split up months ago—and Arquette’s admission that he’s already found a new woman in Jasmine Waltz—reconciliation might be a tall order. But Aniston is apparently determined to show her support for her pal Cox, not least of all because Courteney provided a shoulder for Aniston to cry on when she and Pitt parted ways. The source adds,
“Goodness knows Courteney supported Jen during her breakup with Brad Pitt. Now it’s Jen’s turn to be to supportive.”
Jennifer does not want Courtney to be unhappy
Friday, October 15th, 2010Jennifer Aniston has rushed to her friend’s side after Courtney Cox told her that her marriage to her husband of 11 years has failed. According to sources close to Jennifer, the Friends star has told Courtney Cox not to end up like her and Brad Pitt and try and see if she can save the marriage.
Brad Pitt famously walked out on Jennifer Aniston for Angelina Jolie and according to the source, Jennifer does not want her friend to feel as lonely as she did.
Courtney Cox and Jennifer Aniston have been best friends ever since they appeared on the popular TV show Friends, and as soon as Courtney phoned her friend to tell her about her marriage problems, Jennifer went straight around to give her friend a shoulder to cry on.
Jennifer has advised Courtney against divorce and has advised her friend to try and see if the marriage can be fixed but according to reports, Courtney is certain that the marriage is dead and buried.
A source close to Jennifer has said: “Jennifer knows how painful divorce is and wants to make sure her friend knows how dark divorce can be.”
